Esophageal Motility Study - Prep Instructions
About the Study
Please Read ALL Information Carefully
The study involves passing a probe into your stomach and esophagus. The probe is quite small and easily tolerated.
You will not be given any medication to make you more relaxed or sleepy for this study. Expect the probe to be in your esophagus/stomach for about 15 to 30 minutes and to be at the center for a total of about an hour. You will be able to resume your normal activities after the study.
Important Points to Note Prior to Undergoing the Procedure
You will need to be off the following medications: (Check with your doctor).
- Calcium channel blockers, if you are on them for a motility problem, for 24-hours. NOTE: If you are taking calcium channel blockers for a heart condiciton, please DO NOT go off this medication. (Check with your doctor).
- Erythromicin for 48 hours
Please take your other medications as you normally would.
NOTE: Please check with your doctor regarding any medication questions.
- Do not eat or drink anything 4-6 hours prior to your study. You may have small sips of water up until 2 hours prior to your study.
- You will not need someone to drive for you after this study.
