Anoscopy Prep

About Anoscopy

  • An Anoscopy is an examination of the anus and lower rectum by means of an instrument called an Anoscope. This scope extends into the rectum approximately 5 to 6 inches.  This brief procedure is performed in the doctor’s office.  No sedation is required.  Cleansing of the area is necessary and described below.
  • Every effort will be made to keep your appointment at the scheduled time, but in medicine, unexpected delays and emergencies may occur and your wait time may be prolonged.  We give each patient the attention needed for his or her procedure.

If you have any questions please call our office.

The day of your Anoscopy

Obtain two PLAIN FLEET ENEMAS from any pharmacy (over the counter).  They are packaged in a green and white box.

One hour before leaving home: Give yourself the first enema, hold as long as possible, up to 20 min and expel it.  Allow yourself to rest for a few minutes.  Follow with the second enema, again holding for no more than 20 minutes.

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER TAKING THE ENEMAS

YOU MAY TAKE YOUR MEDICATIONS WITH SMALL SIPS OF WATER

If you think the prep is not working, call our office and ask to speak to the office nurse of your physician.  If after hours you will be prompted to the on call physician.
