About FibroScan:

FibroScan is the noninvasive gold standard for comprehensive management of liver disease. It sends a pulse of energy to your liver, which will give your medical practitioner important information about your liver’s health. FibroScan is a specialized ultrasound machine for your liver that measures fibrosis (scarring) and steatosis (fatty change) in your liver.

Contraindications to Procedure:

  • FibroScan cannot be performed if you have a wound in the FibroScan region of interest.

How do I Prepare?

Wear comfortable clothes that allow access to the right side of your rib cage.
You should be fasting (no food or liquids/water) for at least 3 hours before your examination.

What to Expect during Exam?

  • The examination is carried out by a trained operator.
  • You will lie on your back with your right arm above your head.
  • You will cross your right leg over your left to help open your rib spaces.
  • The exam is not painful, but you may feel a slight vibration from the probe as the measurements are taken.
  • The exam typically takes between 5 and 10 minutes to perform.

After the Exam:

  • Your medical practitioner will review the results and our office will contact you with the results of your FibroScan and plan of care recommendations.

Procedure Cancellation Notice Requirements:

  • Procedure cancellations must be made three (3) business days prior to your appointment.
  • Failure to provide the required advance notice will result in a $50 Total Cancellation Fee.
